Course Schedule

The Open Water Diver courses are run regularly throughout the warmer months of the summer. You can choose from our convenient schedule. The courses run over 2 consecutive weekends or 4 consecutive days.

Basic dive knowledge is imperative in laying the foundations for confidence in scuba diving. In the classroom your Instructor will be expanding on your pre course studies. Subjects include Dive theory and physics, Equipment, The Underwater Environment and Planning dives.

We first train you with the basic skills needed to scuba dive. The initial learning is done within the confines of our pool until you have mastered your skills.

By day 3, your confidence has grown. We take you to Goat Island where you refine those skills in the world's first temperate Marine Reserve, up close and personal with New Zealand's friendliest fish.

Day 4 is the big day! We head around to the remarkable dive reefs at the back of Goat Island (weather permitting) on Apollo, our custom design dive boat. By this stage it's all about refining your dive planning, buoyancy control and equipment for comfort.

"My partner and I attended the PADI Open Water four day course and can highly recommend using Goat Island Dive Centre. Our Instructor put us at ease from the very moment we arrived, he presented the course clearly, and all the dives were undertaken with professionalism and care. "Hi guys, don't know if you remember Sue and I - we did our open water with you back in November last year. Just wanted to let you know we were definitely bitten by the bug and have been diving all around the world on our travels (Belize, Zanzibar, White Shark cage diving in Capetown, fresh water altitude dive in Lake Malawi).  Currently we are in Koh Tao Thailand, Sue has just finished her advanced open water and I have become a rescue diver (frightening eh), we wanted to thank you guys for doing such a great job with our first course, when we see others who are certified it is quite frightening they are allowed in the water." Richard and Sue, Warkworth, NZ

"Fantastic pool to learn in, beautiful Leigh region, Auckland only 1 hour away. New equipment, big dive boat, couldn't ask for much more, oh yeah...fantastic Instructor!" Troy Prescott, Auckland, NZ
